Back Row Cornets
Mark has been playing since the age of 11 starting his playing career with the Rushden Windmill Band. He enjoyed much success with the “Windmill” until a career move meant re-locating to Cambridgeshire where he soon joined Soham Commarades. It was here that Mark mastered the Soprano cornet and went on to play with Soham at the 1st Section National Finals held at Wembley.
International business took Mark to Singapore for 2 years when during this period playing took a back seat. On his return to UK Mark returned to his roots and initially took up a front row post at the Windmill. However just as at Soham, the Sop player left and Mark temporarily stepped in….8 years later and another National Finals under his belt Mark took a break.
Living in Towcester now playing with TSB seemed the obvious thing to do so Mark is currently sharing his experience and enjoying stress free life on the back row… for the moment.
Laura began playing the trumpet at the age of 11 under the tuition of Adele Sellers. Enjoying membership of a number of NMPAT county groups, Laura became principal trumpet of the County Youth Orchestra, County Youth Concert Band, and Principal Cornet of the County Youth Brass Band.
In order to improve her sight reading Laura originally joined the band in the year 2000 (a great period for the band who won the the Midlands Regional Area, and rose to the championship section over the next few years).
Laura left the band to study History at University and after some time living in Australia and London, Laura is now happily settled in Duston, Northampton with her husband, three children and two cats. (She is still working on her sight reading!)
Dan started learning the trumpet at the age of 13 being taught by a former member of Towcester Studio Band, Paul Truman. After Paul had finished teaching in Towcester he was then taught by Adele Sellers (now Hudson) who brought him to Towcester Studio Band when she began conducting there in 2000. He has played with Towcester Studio Band since then and been a member of the committee for most of that time, serving several years as Honorary Bandmaster. His qualifications include Music GCSE and A Level and a combined Honours degree in Music & Media Studies. He has been the proprietor of his own musical instrument sales and repair business since 2007, supplying the world with Instruments, Accessories and Brass Care Necessities.
