Following the departure of Neil Brownless in October 2025, we received many high quality applicants to become our next Musical Director. We would like to thank everyone that took the time to apply for the position, especially to those who came along to audition.

Following a thorough audition process which lasted throughout November and into early December, the band is delighted to introduce Ian Knapton as our next MD and we look ahead with confidence toward 2026 and beyond.

Ian brings over two decades of experience within the brass band movement as both a performer and conductor. A BA (Hons) Music graduate, he has built a strong reputation for driving musical development, raising performance standards, and fostering positive, motivated band environments. His most notable tenure saw him lead the Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band from the 4th Section to the 1st Section over a 12-year period—an achievement that reflects sustained musical progress and competitive success.

More recently, Ian has held Musical Director roles with bands including Lindley, Kippax, Littleport Brass, and Market Rasen. Alongside his conducting career, he has performed with many respected brass bands across the country and leading solo artists.

Speaking on his appointment, Ian said:

“Towcester Studio Band is a fantastic organisation with strong foundations, committed players, and huge potential. I’m incredibly proud to accept the role of Musical Director and excited to lead the band into 2026 with ambition, energy, and musical integrity.”

This new partnership marks a positive and ambitious new chapter for us both and we welcome Ian’s experience, vision, and proven track record of musical excellence.
