After several months of planning, Towcester Studio Band and Foden’s Band got together to deliver the first of two workshops and concerts as part of the HaBiT project.
A workshop and concert day was held at Northampton School for Boys (NSB) using the Cripps Hall Theatre on Saturday 13th January. Registration for the workshop was oversubscribed within days of being opened. Thanks to the cooperation of NSB personnel we were able to increase the workshop band to 75 players.
TSB had been busy connecting with the community through this new outreach programme. Together with the help of Northamptonshire and Rutland Music Education Hub - led by Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT) and Foden’s Band, an initial workshop aimed to enhance skills and build confidence, together with information for application during musical performance as well as daily life, was successfully delivered.
The events of the day were led by Foden’s players and MD, Mike Fowles. It proved to be a truly unforgettable experience, especially for the many youngsters who are taking part. Several local brass bands were represented, together with young players from local schools and NMPAT. The workshop band also performed in the evening concert.
The evening concert did not disappoint the audience of approximately 260 brass band supporters. Following the workshop bands introduction, Foden’s Band took to the stage and entertained everyone with their thoroughly entertaining programme which also showcased their highly talented soloists – Mark Wilkinson, Richard Poole, Melanie Whyle, John Barber, Mark Landon, Sam Iles and Anthony Mann,
