Christmas is coming early to Towcester Studio Band!

On Saturday 21st November TSB is performing at its first official Christmas function! The Band have been engaged to play at the Towcester Christmas Fayre which takes place in the Town Hall. I’m sure it will be a feast of festive fun and a good, if slightly early, way to swing into the Christmas programme.

On Saturday 7th November TSB performed an Armistice concert at St Michael’s Church in Silverstone. It was the first time that the full Band had performed in the church and it was a wonderful evening for players and audience alike. Peter Coles organised the concert on behalf of St Michael’s and he was delighted with the success of the event which he reported was a very good contributor to the church’s ongoing fund raising efforts.

The following day TSB played the hymns at St Lawrence’s church for the Remembrance service. There were several members of the Band that were deployed in other towns and villages during the period to play the Last Post and Reveille. It is an important weekend in the Band’s diary and one that we are proud to support.

Moving on TSB are competing at the Milton Keynes contest on Sunday 29th November. The contest is held at Stantonbury Leisure Complex. It is what is called an ‘own choice’ test piece and Musical Director Neil Brownless selected a piece called ‘Kingdom of The Dragons’. As you might expect from the title it has a heavy welsh theme which suits Lyn Stoneman (tenor horn & contest administrator) as Lyn is our man from The Valleys! The Band has been working hard on this piece for a few weeks but the practice intensifies from now until the event.

And so we will move into December fully focused on all things Christmas! Our first formal event is at Heart of The Shires shopping village, near Weedon, on Saturday 5th December. We then move to Kislingbury church the following Saturday 12th for a Christmas concert starting at 7:30pm. Our main annual Christmas concert in St Lawrence church, Towcester is on Wednesday 16thDecember, also commencing at 7:30pm.
