TSB was delighted to receive the news that two more young players have been invited to play in the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Georgia Humphrey, Tenor Horn and Tom Stoneman, Flugel Horn, were both recently informed of their success by receiving this most prestigious invitation to join the NYBB. They join Hayley Carr, Tenor Horn, Andy Goldfinch, Eb Tuba and Will Wilkins, Bb Tuba all ex TSB members who were selected in recent years and are now established members of NYBBGB.
TSB is very proud of its Banding heritage and the fact that a small market town Band is able to assist in the development of the musical careers of so many talented youngsters is a good thing, except for the fact that eventually many of the young players leave TSB for university! That is just a fact of life and the empty seats that they leave behind merely presents opportunity for the next generation of young brass players.
Over the years TSB has enjoyed a strong association with Sponne School and during that time both organisations have benefitted from the growing interest in learning to play a Brass instrument. The School Brass Band is very strong and only last week performed in the foyer of the Birmingham Symphony Hall, prior to a concert given by the famous Black Dyke Band. Sponne were invited to give a thirty minute concert in recognition of a ‘Performance Participation Award’ attained during a Youth Music Festival contest last year. The quality of the playing and the rich tone of the school band is testament to the wealth of young talent in our area and the hard work afforded to them by the music department staff at the school.
TSB were well represented with current and past players, and look forward to many more of the emerging talents of the Sponne School Brass Band joining the ranks of TSB in the years ahead.
