Last week was a particularly busy week for TSB. On Bank Holiday Monday the Band headed for the coast in what turned out to be horrendous weather conditions. The Band was engaged to play in Bournemouth Bandstand at 3pm and so the coach rolled out of Towcester at 6:30am heading south.
The rain was relentless and we eventually reached our drop off point at around 10am, where everyone was hoping to chill out with a few hours on the beach! Alas the rain kept falling and so one or two hardly souls braved a walk along the prom just hanging onto the brollies, whilst less hardly souls hit the shops and café’s!
After a very acceptable pub lunch we retired to our ‘dressing room’ aka an SMS 53 seater coach! Following our transformation it was show time. Despite the awful weather a steady flow of people enjoyed the sounds emitting from what is a wonderful Bandstand in the Gardens. At one point people were seen to act out famous scenes from Singing in The Rain, with synchronised umbrella twirling! A good time was had by all despite the poor weather.
The journey home was affected a bit by Bank Holiday traffic delays but probably not as bad as it could have been on a hot sunny day, so the rain had some advantages! The Band is now looking forward to another trip to the seaside in 2015.
Much closer to home we were out again on the streets of Northampton, last Saturday lunchtime. As part of a Northamptonshire Music Festival event TSB played in front of All Saints Church on Wood Hill. It was a breezy but dry day! It was an event much enjoyed by players and passers-by with several people stopping by to say thanks and have a chat. The Band is grateful to Northampton Council for booking us to play in the Town twice during 2014. A couple of weeks earlier TSB played in Abington Park, another annual and very enjoyable afternoon.
Looking forward TSB is performing in St Lawrence Church Towcester on Saturday 13th September at 7:30pm, tickets available on the door. This is our late summer concert. We will then play in a joint concert with Towcester Choral Society on Saturday 8th November at the same venue. This is a World War 1 commemorative concert and is sure to be well supported so please be there early to get a good seat. Concert starts at 7:30pm.
