Peter Wain

Peter was handed his first brass instrument, a cornet, at 11. He enjoyed playingmusic so much he made rapid progress, eventually having lessons from Bram Wiggins and gaining entry into the Birmingham School of Music to study for a graduate diploma.

At the School of Music he studied trumpet, cornet and conducting. After leaving Birmingham he played trumpet professionally for a few years playing with the

CBSO and other professional orchestras. After a period of time cruising and playing dance music he entered the teaching profession as an Early Years teacher.

Peter first conducted Towcester Studio Band in 1984 helping the band gradually rise through the sections. The highlights of this period was an appearance with the band at the Royal Albert Hall in 1985, a tour of Holland and many excellent contest performances. Peter left TSB in 1999 when he moved to Warwickshire.

Since 2000 he has had a break from ‘banding’ concentrating on orchestral playing.  He has recently retired from Primary School headship so he was very pleased to accept the offer to return to conduct Towcester Studio Band again.
