It is now only a few weeks before the all important contest of the year – The Midlands Section Regional Contest. Once again the 16 bands competing in Section 3 will be performing at a new venue. This year, the contest is being held on Sunday March 3rd at the Corby Business Academy.
The Midlands region 3rd Section has proved to be a very highly contested competition over the years and we go into this years’ contest in joint 4th position.
Rehearsals of the test piece – Corineus (Christopher Bond)  have been going very well over the last few weeks, with valuable sectionals being held by our very busy MD, Neil Brownless.
We have also been very fortunate this year to have had two special events to help us prepare.
In the middle of January, we were fortunate to have Mike Fowles (MD of Fodens’ Band) deliver a whole day’s worth of sectionals followed by a Full Band session. Â
This proved to be a fantastic experience for all of the players, where we all learned far more than just how to play the test piece.
Then, towards the end of January, eight of our players were fortunate to have a session with ‘The Embouchure Man’ – Marcus Reynolds. Marcus covered areas such as range, stamina and sound.
Finally, we would also like to welcome some newer members of the band who will be competing at their First ‘Area Contest’ with us this year :
